Woolpip is a row and stitch counter for knitting and crochet. If your question isn't answered here, write to support@randomfuse.com. In the app, Settings → Contact support starts an email for you, and you can choose to include diagnostics: a few recent lines from Woolpip's log, with personal details removed. You see them before you send.
Getting started
- Count right away. Woolpip opens on a big counter (Quick count). Tap the big pad to add a row.
- Save it as a project when you're ready. A project can have as many counters as you need: rows, stitches, rounds and repeats.
- Try the sample. On the Projects tab, "Try a sample project" loads a sample hat so you can look around.
Counters
- Repeats:
- A repeat counter can follow another counter. Each row you count moves the repeat on, and it starts over at the end.
- Repeats count from 1, so an 8-row repeat runs 1 to 8.
- Targets: give a counter a target. Turn on "Count down to the target" to see how many are left instead.
- Step: count by 2s, or by any number.
- Type a number: tap the number to type it. With "Tap anywhere to count" on, hold the number instead.
- Undo takes back the last tap.
- Lock counting stops stray taps on a project.
- Reminders: add one from a counter, for example "Decrease every 6 rows". It shows the moment you reach that row. A reminder can be:
- at a row;
- every few rows from a starting row;
- at a set row inside each repeat.
- Time: start and stop time on a project. Woolpip keeps the start and stop times from the clock, so the total stays right even if the app is closed.
Counting without opening the app
Widgets
| How to add | What it does | |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone and iPad | Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit → Add Widget, choose Woolpip. Pick a size, then touch and hold the widget → Edit Widget to choose the project | The small Home Screen widget has a + button, the medium one + and −. Lock Screen and StandBy widgets show your count and have a + button. Tapping a widget anywhere else opens that counter |
| Android | Touch and hold the home screen → Widgets → Woolpip, in two sizes. Choose the project when you place it | The small widget has a + button, the wide one + and −. Tap the widget anywhere else to open that counter |
Widget taps are saved even when Woolpip is closed, and they show up in the app the next time it opens.
Counter on Lock Screen
While you're counting a project (a counter in full screen, or a pattern beside its counters), Woolpip keeps that project on your Lock Screen:
- iPhone: as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island;
- Android: as an ongoing notification.
It shows:
- the project's name;
- the row count and the repeat;
- the next reminder;
- and − buttons;
- a timer, only while you're timing the project.
It ends when:
- you go back to your project list;
- you finish, archive or delete the project;
- an hour passes without counting.
Details:
- Turning it off: Settings → Counting → Counter on Lock Screen.
- Android: it needs notification permission. Woolpip asks only when you turn the setting on, never while you count.
- Hiding the name: if your notification previews are set to hide on a locked phone, the project's name is hidden there.
Bluetooth page turners and keyboards
On Quick count, a counter in full screen or a pattern:
- add a row: →, ↓, Page Down, Space, Enter or numpad +;
- take one away: ←, ↑, Page Up or numpad −.
Most Bluetooth page turners send these keys. A remote that only sends volume buttons won't work.
Patterns
- Adding a pattern: open a project → Add pattern, and pick a PDF or a photo (up to 50 MB). You can also send a file to Woolpip from another app with "Open in Woolpip" or the share sheet. It waits under Projects → Patterns to file until you add it to a project or start a new one.
- Your place:
- A pattern reopens on the page where you stopped.
- Tap Mark my place to put a highlight bar on the line you're working on. It moves down a row each time you count, and Next page carries it over. You can drag it, nudge it, resize it, or stop it following the counter.
- Screen sizes: in landscape and on tablets, your counters sit beside the pattern.
- Dark mode: pages are dimmed a little. Turn the dim off from the viewer's menu.
- Password-protected PDFs ask for their password when they open.
Sign-in, backup and sync
Do I need an account? No. Everything in Woolpip works offline with no account. Sign in only if you want a backup, or want your projects on more than one device.
How sync works:
- Every count is saved on your device the moment you tap, then sent to your account when you're online.
- Counts made on two devices while offline add up exactly when the devices reconnect, so no rows are lost or counted twice.
- Pattern files sync too, stored privately for your account alone:
- up to 50 MB per file;
- up to 1 GB per account.
- Deleted items disappear from your other devices, and from our servers 30 days later.
Pattern says "Waiting for your other device to upload it" or "Not on this device yet". The file is on its way:
- open Woolpip on the device where you added the pattern, while it's online, so it can upload;
- on this device, connect to the internet so it can download.
If it says "On this device only (too large to sync)" or "your account storage is full", that file stays on the device it was added on. Remove patterns you've finished with to free up space.
"Not saved to your account": what does it mean? Woolpip shows this banner in Settings when your account refused some changes from this device. It happens rarely. The usual cause is data that belongs to a different Woolpip account, for example:
- a copy kept on this phone after signing out of another account, then signing in to this one;
- an export restored while you were signed out, if its projects came from another account.
Restoring an export from another account while you're signed in doesn't cause it: Woolpip adds that export to your account as a copy.
What happens to those changes:
- the refused changes aren't on your account;
- the next sync takes them off this device too, so your devices agree with the account.
What to do:
- If you restored from an export file, keep that file. It still has everything. Restoring it again adds only what's missing and never duplicates anything.
- If you don't know where the changes came from, or something you need is missing, write to support@randomfuse.com and tell us when you saw the banner. We can't see the refused changes themselves: Woolpip never sends their contents anywhere. If crash reports are on, Woolpip reports that a change was refused and which kind of data it was, but those reports aren't linked to you or your account.
- Tap the banner's close button once you've read it.
Moving to a new phone:
- Signed in: sign in on the new phone and everything comes across, patterns included. Using one device at a time or several at once is free.
- Not signed in: on the old phone, Settings → Export my data. On the new phone, Settings → Restore from export. Pattern files aren't in the export, so add them again from wherever you keep them.
Signing out: you choose whether to keep a copy of your data on the device or remove it.
Export and restore
- Export: Settings → Export my data makes a zip with JSON and CSV files of everything you've counted. It's free, always. It lists your patterns by title, but the pattern files themselves aren't in the zip.
- Restore: Settings → Restore from export:
- checks the whole file first;
- adds what's missing and never overwrites what's on the device;
- adds nothing if you run it twice;
- if the export came from a different account, adds it to this one as a copy.
- if the export was made while signed in, asks you to sign in first, so it can't undo newer changes in your account.
Woolpip Pro
- Free: everything you need to count, for one active project at a time. Finished and archived projects don't count toward it.
- Pro: a single purchase, not a subscription. It unlocks unlimited active projects and the Pro features we add later.
- Restore Purchases: Settings → Pro → Restore purchases, for example on a new phone or after reinstalling.
- Pro on your other devices: on another iPhone or iPad with the same Apple ID, or another Android device with the same Google account, tap Restore purchases.
- Refunds: Apple and Google handle refunds: ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google Play through your order history. If a purchase is refunded:
- your most recently counted active project keeps counting;
- the others become read-only until you archive some;
- nothing is deleted, and export still works.
- Our promise: counting, export and backup always stay free, and a feature that's free today will never move behind Pro.
Deleting your account
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.
- On the web: randomfuse.com/woolpip/delete-account.
The privacy policy lists what's deleted and what's kept. Deleting your account doesn't refund a purchase.
Privacy
Woolpip has no ads and no ad tracking. The privacy policy explains exactly what's collected. In short:
- without an account, everything stays on your device except a few usage events and crash reports, which never include your projects, notes or patterns;
- with an account, your data syncs to your account and nowhere else.
To turn off usage events and crash reports, go to Settings → Account and data → Share usage data and crash reports.
