Punchjar is a time clock for hourly workers: clock in and out with one tap, and see your hours, overtime and pay add up. If your question isn't answered here, write to support@randomfuse.com. In the app, Settings → Contact support starts an email for you, and you can choose to include diagnostics: a few recent lines from Punchjar's log, with personal details removed. You see them before you send.
Getting started
- Clock in right away. Punchjar opens on the Clock. Give your job a name (or keep "My job") and tap Clock in. No account, no setup, and it works offline.
- Add a pay rate when you're ready: Settings → Jobs and pay → your job → Pay rate. The Clock then shows today's and this week's pay as you work.
- Your name for timesheets: Settings → Your name. It prints on your PDF timesheets.
On the clock
- Breaks: tap Start break and End break, or +30 min break to log a lunch after the fact. Breaks are unpaid unless you mark them paid.
- Clock out stops the shift. The time is kept from the clock, so it stays right even if Punchjar is closed or your phone restarts.
- "Still clocked in?" Punchjar can remind you once if a shift runs long. Turn it on from the card after your first clock-in, or in Settings.
- Switch job: with more than one job, tap Switch job at the top of the Clock. Off the clock it picks the job you clock in to; on the clock, the shift ends and one for the other job starts at the same moment.
Fixing a shift
- Forgot to clock in or out? Tap I forgot… on the Clock, choose "Started at" or "Stopped at", and set the real time and date.
- Edit any shift: tap it in the Timesheet. Change its times, breaks, notes or job, then Save.
- Every change is kept. At the bottom of a shift, "How this shift was made" lists each change: what changed, when, and on which device. The history can't be edited.
- Deleted a shift by mistake? Tap Undo, or open Recently deleted in the Timesheet. Deleted shifts can be restored for 30 days.
Night shifts, split shifts and time zones
- A shift that runs past midnight counts toward the workday it started on. Settings → Jobs and pay → your job → Workday start changes when your workday begins.
- You can have several shifts in a day.
- Each shift keeps the time zone it was worked in, so travel and daylight-saving changes don't move your hours.
Jobs, pay and overtime
- Jobs: each with its own pay rate history, rounding and pay period. One job is free; a second and more come with Pro.
- Changed jobs? Settings → Jobs and pay → your job → Start a new job. Your old job is archived with every shift, pay rate and report (it stays in Jobs and in your exports), and a new one starts. Free. Clock out first if a shift is running.
- Pay rate changes: add a new rate from the date it starts. Your first rate applies from the start; earlier weeks keep the rate they were worked at.
- Overtime: weekly overtime is free. Daily and weekly ("Daily 8 + weekly 40") and custom tiers come with Pro. Tap any total to see the math behind it.
- Rounding: round each punch or each shift to 5, 6, 10, 15 or 30 minutes.
- Pay periods: weekly, every 2 weeks, twice a month, monthly or every 4 weeks.
- Take-home (Pro): a take-home %, or each tax and deduction from your pay slip as a percent or a flat amount, before or after tax.
- Time off (Pro): sick, vacation, holiday and unpaid days, with yearly balances. Time off you added keeps counting if Pro ends.
- With Pro: night and weekend premiums, holiday pay, custom overtime tiers, tips, mileage and flat amounts on a shift.
Pay figures are estimates based on the rules you enter. They are not payroll, tax or legal advice.
The Timesheet
- Week, Pay period and Month views, with totals for each.
- Jump to any date from the header.
- Templates: save a shift as a template, then Fill this week from your templates, or Copy last week.
- Scheduled shifts: shifts ahead of today show as scheduled until you work them. Punchjar can remind you before a scheduled shift.
- Time off: add vacation, sick, holiday, unpaid or other days, with yearly balances.
Shifts from a photo
Take a photo or pick a screenshot of your work schedule, and Punchjar adds its shifts:
- Timesheet → Add a shift or time off → Shifts from a photo.
- Choose a photo, or take one. Punchjar reads it on your device and doesn't keep the photo.
- Pick your name on the schedule, check each shift, fix anything it couldn't read, then Add.
Nothing is saved until you add the shifts, and Undo takes them back. Your first schedule from a photo is free; later ones come with Pro. On iPhone and iPad the photo is read by Apple's own text recognition. On Android it's read by Google's ML Kit, on your device; ML Kit sends Google its own diagnostics, never the photo or its text (see the privacy policy).
Export and import
- PDF timesheet (Pro): Timesheet → Export → PDF timesheet. Preview it, choose whether to include pay, then share or print.
- Spreadsheet (CSV): Settings → Export my data → Spreadsheet (CSV), for every shift, or Timesheet → Export for a week or pay period. It opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. Free.
- Import from a spreadsheet: from the Export sheet, pick a CSV file. Punchjar shows how it read the columns and a preview, adds only shifts that aren't already there, and lets you undo the import.
Sign-in, backup and sync
Do I need an account? No. Everything in Punchjar works offline with no account.
Signing in is optional. Where your version of Punchjar offers it, Settings → Account lets you sign in with Apple, Google or a code we email you, to back up your data and use it on your other devices.
One live device, free; every device with Pro. Signed in, your hours sync live on one device at a time for free. Sign in on a second phone or a tablet and Punchjar asks: tap Move here and it becomes the live one (Settings → Live sync shows where it is). The other device keeps what it has, and anything you add there waits until you move sync back to it. Nothing is lost either way. With Pro, every device you sign in on syncs live.
Moving to a new phone:
- Signed in: sign in on the new phone and tap Move here. Your jobs, pay, shifts, time off and templates come across. Free.
- Not signed in: on the old phone, Settings → Export my data → Spreadsheet (CSV), and send the file to the new phone. There, open the Export sheet → Import from a spreadsheet. Your shifts, breaks, notes and pay rates come across, into jobs with the same names and currency; pay rules (such as overtime), time off and templates don't, so set them up again.
Signing out: you choose whether to keep a copy of your data on the device or remove it.
Punchjar Pro
- Free, with no time limit: clocking in and out, breaks, one job, weekly overtime, pay at one rate, templates, reminders, widgets, spreadsheet export and import, backup, and live sync on one device at a time.
- Pro: a second job and more; the PDF timesheet; daily and custom overtime; time off with yearly balances; the take-home estimate and taxes and deductions line by line; premiums, holiday pay, tips, mileage and flat amounts; live sync on every device; every schedule from a photo; color themes and app icons.
- Plans: Monthly, Annual (with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers) or Lifetime, a one-time purchase. Prices show in the app before you buy.
- Cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it.
- Restore purchases: Settings → Pro → Restore purchases, for example on a new phone or after reinstalling.
- Refunds: Apple and Google handle refunds: ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google Play through your order history.
- If Pro ends: nothing is deleted. Every job, shift and total stays, every job keeps taking shifts, Pro pay rules, time off and the take-home estimate keep counting, and spreadsheet export still works. Changing a Pro rule, adding time off or a job beyond one, or making a PDF waits for Pro. Sync goes back to one live device, the one you used last.
Deleting your account
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.
- On the web: randomfuse.com/punchjar/delete-account.
The privacy policy lists what's deleted and what's kept. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription or refund a purchase.
Privacy
Punchjar has no ads and no ad tracking. The privacy policy explains exactly what's collected. In short:
- without an account, everything stays on your device except a few usage events and crash reports, which never include your jobs, hours, pay or notes;
- with an account, your data syncs to your account and nowhere else;
- schedule photos are read on your device and never kept.
To turn off usage events and crash reports, go to Settings → Account and data → Share usage data and crash reports.
